Samoa Supreme Court cancels arrest warrant for Zipso

Apia, SAMOA — The Supreme Court has set aside the Warrant of Arrest for Sipili Nanai, Samoa’s hit singer known as Zipso.

Nanai’s sentencing has been re-scheduled for next week.

The defendant’s lawyer gave him the wrong time for his court appearance early this week on Wednesday, April 10.

The court set the Warrant of Arrest aside after Nanai visited the courthouse, but later than the scheduled 10 a.m. sentencing.

The defendant was scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. for sentencing Wednesday, but when his matter was called he did not appear.

A police officer stepped outside the courtroom and called his name twice. The police officer informed the court that Nanai was not present.

Consequently, Justice Tafaoimalo issued a Warrant of Arrest.

The warrant was later set aside, as in cancelled.
