Apia, SAMOA — Samoa's police have announced another amnesty for people to surrender unlicensed guns and ammunition.
Police Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil said it was the third time in as many years the public had been given a chance to hand in such items without prosecution.
Fuiavailili emphasised the importance of the public cooperating by bringing in firearms and other related items in order to reduce unlawful incidents and to prevent unwanted accidents with children having access to weapons when they were not properly stored.
Commissioner Fuiavailili said more than 300 guns were destroyed after the previous amnesties.
The current amnesty will last until November 30.
