AMERICAN SAMOA DISTRICT COURT

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On July 31, 2025, an individual called the Leone Police Station (LPS) requesting assistance regarding two men who were allegedly causing a disturbance in the villages of Asili and Amaluia.

One of the suspects was later arrested and charged with:

Count 1: Underage Consumption of Alcohol, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500, or both imprisonment and fine; and

Count 2: Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500, or both.

The defendant was held without bail.

Court records revealed that on July 31st, at around 3:22 p.m., an individual (later identified as the reporter) contacted the LPS and reported two drunk men causing a disturbance in the villages of Asili and Amaluia, irritating the villagers with their behavior.

Police officers upon arrival on the scene did not find the suspects there. A man approached the officers and informed them that the reporter and the village Bishop had intervened and taken both suspects back to Asili.

Authorities went to Asili where they met with the reporter and one of the suspects. The reporter informed the officers that her nephew, Elijah Gase (suspect #1) was mad when she asked him regarding his paycheck. He left and came back drunk and started a disturbance which alerted the Bishop and another man from the village. The reporter also stated that she had informed the suspect #1 that she had already notified his parents in Samoa regarding what happened.

The officers met with the Bishop and he explained his side of the story. According to the Bishop, he saw suspect #2 drunk near the highway and told him to go home to shower and wait for him. He then went after suspect #1 who had walked to Amaluia while making unreasonable noises.

The Bishop stated that he “got there just in time before things escalated”. He transported suspect #1 back home to Asili and waited for the authorities to arrive.

In the meantime, suspect #1 continued to disagree with the reporter and was  apprehended and transported to the LPS.

He was later booked and sent to the Tafuna Correctional Facility to await the next available sitting of the DIstrict Court.

Defendant/ suspect #1 is identified as a 20-year-old citizen of Samoa.
