Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — AS-DOE is delaying the opening of schools until Monday, September 8, 2025 in order to ensure that students return to schools that are not only safe from a continued rise in Dengue Fever, but also to address both health concerns and the readiness of school facilities.

All ASDOE staff will continue to report to their assigned schools during regular work hours to support preparations and ensure campuses are ready to welcome students.

“We call upon our families, PTAs, village councils, churches, and community partners to continue working alongside school principals to prepare each campus for the first day of instruction. Together, we can create an environment where every child feels safe and supported to learn and thrive,” a government press release said.

The health and success of Am Samoa’s students remain at the heart of every decision the department makes.

“We thank our parents, educators, and communities for their patience and partnership as we take these steps to protect and prepare for the new school year.”
Private schools are already in session.
