Drifting FAD located and removed at Alega Beach

FISH AGGREGATING DEVICE

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources (DMWR) has successfully located and removed a drifting Fish Aggregating Device (FAD). This particular drifting FAD was discovered at Alega Beach, thanks in part to the vigilance and cooperation of the local community.

Special thanks are extended to Ms. Tisa Fa'amuli, the owner of Tisa's Barefoot Bar, for her invaluable assistance in identifying and reporting the drifting FAD. Her proactive approach highlights the importance of community involvement in preserving our marine environments.

The DMWR encourages everyone to remain vigilant and report any sightings of drifting FADs or satellite buoys. Your cooperation is crucial in safeguarding our waters and ensuring the safety of marine life. Please contact the DMWR at 633-4456 or reach out directly to E. Schuster at 258-2144 if you encounter any of these devices.
