Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A detailed flyer has been released by the American Samoa Government (ASG) providing an overview of various new office locations while ongoing renovations at the AP Lutali Executive Office Building in Utulei continue. The re-locations are said to facilitate uninterrupted services to the community, as well as improve the efficiency of government operations.

The Department of Commerce has relocated to Pago Plaza, positioning itself in a central area that allows for better accessibility and visibility for residents and businesses seeking assistance.

The Attorney General’s Office has moved to the upper floor of the GHC Reid Building in Fagatogo; while the Criminal Justice Planning Agency has found its new home in the Laufou Building in Nuuuli.

The Budget Office has moved to a two-story building situated adjacent to the Veterinary Clinic at the Industrial Park.

Several other government offices have also been established along the Happy Valley Road in Tafuna.

In March, it was confirmed that the extensive renovations of the Executive Office Building (EOB) are made possible through a $39.5 million allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), which has been formally approved for the complete overhaul of the AP Lutali Executive Office Building located in Utulei.

As announced by Tanya Ma’o Aab, the Director of Administrative Services, this funding will not only facilitate the renovations but will also cover the costs associated with relocating offices currently housed within the EOB to alternative sites during the renovation period.

Ma’o Aab elaborated that the renovation will involve a comprehensive upgrade of the entire interior of the three-story building, ensuring a modern and functional workspace.

This remodel will include complete replacements of all flooring, ceilings, and wall structures. Additionally, all mechanical systems — including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning — will be entirely replaced to enhance energy efficiency and comfort. A state-of-the-art sprinkler and fire alarm system will also be installed to ensure the safety of all occupants, while the electrical and plumbing systems will undergo substantial upgrades to meet current codes and improve overall functionality.

Earlier this month, Chief of Staff Leonard Seumnanutafa stated that the ARPA work on the Executive Office Building is adversely affecting certain departments that have not yet completed their relocation. In a general memorandum, he pointed out that some government offices in the EOB may be closed or may have limited operations.

“Supervisors are responsible for notifying employees regarding work expectations related to closing or limiting operations, where necessary. ASG Employees should follow their regular assigned schedule and work remotely if possible.

“If you believe your workspace is impacted by construction. Please contact your supervisor for permission prior to leaving early. Supervisors, managers, and Directors shall coordinate for consistent treatment of employees that are or are not affected,” stated the Chief of Staff in the General Memorandum.

Seumanutafa emphasized that adhering to the project timeline is critical for its success. He expressed appreciation for the dedication and adaptability displayed by ASG employees and the construction crews, acknowledging their efforts in helping meet essential deadlines.

“Their commitment is vital as we navigate this complex process.

“Furthermore, I respectfully ask for the understanding and patience of both the public and fellow ASG employees during this time. We are diligently working to minimize any disruptions to the services offered by the affected offices, ensuring that we continue to meet community needs while progressing with the project.”
