Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the American Samoa Office of Veterans & Military Affairs hosted an orientation event for veterans, military service members, and their families. Lt. Governor Pulu Ae Ar Jr. had the honor of addressing attendees, sharing his gratitude and encouragement for the veterans community.
As a veteran himself, Lt. Governor Pulu expressed how blessed he felt to see so many fellow veterans gathered for this significant occasion.
He urged all veterans, regardless of their branch of service — Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines — to engage with the VA office, emphasizing that this initiative was long overdue. He underscored the importance of unity among veterans, reminding everyone that they are one community, bound by their shared service and sacrifice.
Highlighting the office’s 55-year legacy, Lt. Governor Pulu reiterated that it is a place for all veterans, providing not only essential services but also a welcoming space for camaraderie and leisure activities. He expressed his gratitude to all veterans who attended the event and encouraged ongoing participation to ensure the VA community thrives, both locally and for visiting veterans from overseas.
In his closing remarks, Pulu called on all veterans to invite and welcome their fellow service members, fostering a strong, inclusive community where they and their families can find support and friendship. He concluded by thanking the Director of Veterans & Military Affairs and his leadership team for their dedication in making the event a success.
At a time when the VA is facing severe cuts to its workforce due to the DOGE focus on cutting costs to downsize the federal government, there is a ‘wait & see’ approach by local leaders about how this will or is affecting American Samoa.
