Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga has declared Manu'a Cession Day a holiday in American Samoa — Tuesday, July 16, 2024. All government offices will be closed with the usual protocols and caveats.
This day commemorates the ceding of the Manu'a islands to the United States following the signing of the Deed of Cession of Manu'a by King Tuimanu’a Elisara in 1904. Governor Lemanu encourages all citizens to take this opportunity to reflect upon the sacrifices and wisdom of our forefathers.
Earlier the Department of Agriculture hosted its annual Farm Fair in conjunction with Manu'a Cession Day on Saturday.
The official Manu’a Cession Day ceremony commenced Sunday with a church service and additional activities are scheduled today and will culminate in the flag-raising after the traditional ava ceremony at Malaetele on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
A government contingent, headed by Gov. Lemanu and Lt. Gov. Laapui Talauega E.V. Ale are in Manu’a to be a part of the celebrations in Manu’a for its Cession Day.
