Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Tafuna High School’s Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) marked a significant milestone with its annual Change of Command Ceremony. Cadet Colonel Olefa Fepuleai handed over leadership to Cadet Colonel Ladenia Lavata'i. This ceremony symbolizes the transition of leadership and celebrates the achievements under Cadet Colonel Fepuleai’s command.
Under Cadet Colonel Fepuleai, the JROTC program has soared to new heights, clinching first place in both the Air Rifle and Drill Competitions and seeing one of its own win the prestigious ASMSU JROTC Essay Contest.
The academic prowess of the cadets was also showcased as three teams advanced to Level II in the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl. Moreover, the VEX Robotics teams brought home two National Awards from the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. The unit also celebrated a second-place finish in the Cadet Challenge earlier in the school year.
With the JROTC’s commitment to community service, they organized projects such as the Toy Drive for Tafuna Elementary School and conducted educational briefings on voter registration. The cadets also undertook 23 Color Guard taskings, supporting local graduations, sporting events, and various ceremonies.
Cadet Colonel Ladenia Lavata'i, stepping into her new role, orchestrated a vibrant Organization Day to celebrate these achievements. The event featured games, sports, and a communal feast, marking a joyful conclusion to a successful year.
The Organization Day was held Saturday, May 25, at Lions Park and was attended by both cadets and parents.
As the Tafuna High School JROTC looks forward, the legacy of achievement and leadership left by Cadet Colonel Fepuleai will undoubtedly inspire and challenge Cadet Colonel Lavata'i and her new Task Force staff to reach even greater heights with instructors MAJ Siimoa Galoia, MSG Acania Puletasi, and SFC Lei Solaita providing guidance and mentorship.
