$3.25 million Pacific Basin health grant for Am Samoa

Pago Pago, AMERCAN SAMOA — “Thank you for the ongoing efforts on this longstanding federal grant program,” Congresswoman Aumua Amata (R) said in appreciation to Seiuli Elisapeta Ponausuia (L), an academic researcher in public health and natural disasters, upon American Samoa receiving notice of over $3.25 million in funding for the local Department of Health for the Health Center program.

 “We’re grateful for our health care professionals, and federal funds have an outsized importance to our island health care needs in helping them provide services.”

The Pacific Basin health grant is a discretionary health services grant for continuing health services, in the amount of  $3,252,225, and comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) for Health Centers.

“Thank you also to HHS Secretary Xavier Becarra and HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson, and congratulations to Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga, Lt. Governor La'apui E.V. Ale, and Director Motusa Nua,” concluded Amata.
