Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Thousands gathered at the 194th Annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 6, 2024, where at the Saturday morning session, Gabriel Reid was called as Second Counselor in the General Sunday School Presidency of the Church, a calling that covers the entire worldwide church.
He is the second American Samoan called as a General Authority of the Church. Elder Vincent Haleck, who is currently an emeritus General Authority of the Church. was the first.
Gabriel is the brother of Adney Reid, who was recently replaced by William Spitzenberg as the President of the Pago Pago Samoa West Stake. Adney has been called as the President of the Samoa Apia Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ ot Latter Day Saints in Samoa and American Samoa.
Adney and Gabriel are both sons of Eugene and Tupu Reid, founders of Milovales in Nuuuli, American Samoa. Gabriel has local business interests.
He was born and raised in American Samoa, graduating from Leone High School, before going on to BYU Provo and then playing in the NFL. He and his wife, Heather have four children.
He is currently serving as the President of the Australia Sydney Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
