Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean’s reappointment as member of the Board of Trustees of the American Samoa Government Retirement Fund, was confirmed yesterday by the Senate.
Tuaolo, together with Tony Togia’i were reappointed by Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga after their terms expired on July 22, 2023.
Their new terms expire on July 22, 2029.
In yesterday’s hearing of the Senate Retirement Fund Committee, Chairman Soliai Tuipine Fuimaono spoke in support of the two appointees, saying that they have served diligently for many years on the board and he has complete trust in their ability to safeguard and enhance the Fund for the benefit of the all government employees.
Senator Muagututi’a agreed with Soliai and moved a motion to excuse the witnesses and confirm their reappointment.
Senator Tuaolo thanked senators for the high honor they have accorded them and stated that the Fund is in a good state and they have been closely monitoring the international markets to ensure a positive off-island investment status.
During the Senate regular session which convened after the hearing, senators voted unanimously to confirm their reappointment.
A third member of the board whose term expired on July 22, 2023 is Ueli Tonumaipe’a. However, Governor Lemanu has not reappointed him.
The governor stated that the position Tonumaipe’a vacated will remain open until he finalizes the selection of someone to replace him.
