According to the affidavit, on November 26, 2023, the TPS received a phone call from a father (victim 1) reporting his son, Fa’aliga Tui Aasufou disturbing the peace by yelling profanity towards his mother (victim 2) and assaulting her with an extension cord. He (victim 1) also stated the defendant threatened him with a machete and yelled that he would cut them up into pieces.
Police officers responded to the call and upon arrival, they made initial contact with the father (victim 1) who then explained what had happened.
According to the father of the defendant, the incident happened Sunday morning November 26, 2023, while his family was getting ready for church. His son (defendant) was shouting profanities and telling them “ I don’t care about you anymore”. That is when the defendant allegedly grabbed the extension cord and swung it back and forth almost hitting his mother. The defendant’s father then walked towards him and tried to calm his son down but he refused to listen to his father. The defendant continued shouting profanities and walked outside from their home.
Mr. Aasufou accused his parents of not being his biological parents. Moreover, the father of the defendant told police when when Aasufou walked outside of their house, the defendant grabbed a machete and waved it around saying “he would cut them into pieces”. The father further claimed he tackled the defendant to prevent him from hurting them.
The father pointed out that this is an ongoing issue in his home ever since the defendant was released from the TFC.
The affidavit also revealed that during the interview with the defendant’s mother, she mentioned that she panicked when her only son almost struck her with the extension cord. She said that she told him multiple times to stop yelling or else she would call the police, but he refused to listen and told her to shut up.
He then walked straight outside their house and came back with the machete pointing it at her and telling her she is not his biological mother, according to the report.
She stated she was scared and afraid that her son might hurt her and her family. The mother claimed her son was mad because she didn’t give him any money, and she also advised him to look for a job because he is not a kid anymore.
Aasufou was taken to TPS where he was Mirandized and he waived his rights and agreed to cooperate by providing a statement.
He admitted that he grabbed the extension cord to hit his mother and that he took the machete and told his parents that he could cut them into pieces, When asked why he was mad, he replied “that his parents didn’t loan him money for his needs.”
The defendant was booked and confined at the TCF to await the next sitting of the District Court.
The defendant is a U.S National.
