Governor attends Leaders Group & Pacific Island Forum

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga will be attending the 12th Polynesian Leaders Group (PLG) and the 52nd Pacific Island Forum (PIF) next week Monday Nov. 6, 2023 in Cook Islands. The Governor was expected to travel yesterday evening with the Chief of Staff Loa Tuimavave T. Laupola.

Gov. Lemanu had the opportunity to meet with Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs (OIA) Carmen G. Cantor in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands last week to discuss updates on American Samoa’s eligibility as full members of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF).

A press release from the Governor’s Office says he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to maximizing opportunities that will benefit not only American Samoa, but also extend support and resources to fellow Islanders in the Pacific.

By being part of the PIF, American Samoa's voice would gain significant influence and strengthen our ability to address our unique needs within this regional forum, the release said.
