ASG directors urged to have employees take advantage of training course for federal grant recipients

Lt. Gov. Talauega E.V. Ale

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Graduate School USA — with funding support from the U.S Department of Interior (USDOI) and in conjunction with the Office of the Governor — has confirmed the "New Grantee Orientation" training course in Oct. 30 at the American Samoa Community College Multipurpose Center.

“This course is intended for grantees of federal funds either as a direct recipient or as a sub- recipient. Participants should be those individuals who manage and administer grants involving Federal Funds,” Acting governor Talauega E. V Ale explained in an Oct. 18 memorandum to cabinet members.

Talauega further explained that the training will be an 8-hour course and participants will receive eight Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits upon completion.

“To ensure that we take full advantage of this training opportunity, I urge all Directors and Office Heads to identify relevant employees within your departments who would benefit from this course and arrange for their attendance,” he wrote.

He also provided an online link for employees to register for the course and that cabinet members are to provide the names of those employees to the Governor’s Office. “Let us take advantage of this great opportunity for capacity building,” he concluded.

The information sheet, which includes the “course description” distributed to cabinet members, explained that at the completion of this course participants will be familiar with the administrative requirements for non-federal entities. In particular, the course will address: Financial Management Requirements; Procurement Requirements; Reporting Requirements; and Close Out Requirements.

With funding support from the USDOI’s Office of Insular Affairs, the course is available free of charge for government accountability professionals.

The course’s instructor is Bob Adachi, a graduated from the University of California at Berkeley's Haas School of Business and he began his federal career with the Internal Revenue Service.
