Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Mrs. Vera Talamoa Peck of Leone High School represented American Samoa at this year’s Marine Corps Educator’s workshop, from July 31 to August 4, 2023 in San Diego, CA. She is the first candidate from American Samoa to go to a Marine Corps Educator’s Workshop.
The Educator’s Workshop is designed to do more than any brochure about the Marine Corps ever could. The workshop allows you to see firsthand how Marines are made, what they stand for, and the many benefits and opportunities that come with earning the title.
During the five-day workshop, she had the opportunity to have every question answered by Marines and most importantly, obtain the information needed to help her and her students make informed decisions about their future.
Marine Corps Occupational Opportunities, Physical Training and Conditioning, Marine Corps Drill and Ceremony, Weapons Safety and Marksmanship Techniques, Tactical Aircraft Familiarization, Educational Opportunities and Marine Corps History were among the many parts of the workshop. Mrs. Peck definitely showed that Lion Pride, as she participated in the Rifle Range and the Marine Corps Combat Fitness Test!
The program’s emphasize is on three commitments:
• WE MAKE MARINES.
• WE WIN OUR NATION’S BATTLES.
• WE DEVELOP QUALITY CITIZENS.
It is a great opportunity — with all expenses covered — for educators, coaches, and community leaders to consider. Mrs. Peck hopes that teachers from American Samoa continue to participate in the program in the best interest of their students, especially those who are considering a career in the military. Thank you again for your time, Mrs. Peck!
