Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — During the House Of Representatives’ second regular session, which began Monday, July 10, 2023, a house concurrent resolution was introduced that conveyed the American Samoa Legislature’s deepest condolences to Mrs. Fa’atiuoamoa Filoali’i, the children and the Filoali’i Family on the recent passing of Representative Alumamalu Ale Filoali’i.

Alumamalu was elected to the House of the Representatives for the Tau, Manu’a (District No.1) in 2020 and was sworn into the 37th Legislature. He was reelected for a second term in the 38th Legislature where he served with great distinction until his untimely passing.

During his tenure in the House of Representatives, Alumamalu was an outspoken lawmaker; his colleagues remember him as a fearless and courageous advocate for his district and he would not pass up an opportunity to voice his dismay with the lack of attention given to his people.

He was also vocal about the lack of support from the federal government with respect to the lack of resources given to the Territory.

During his terms as faipule, Alumamalu served as a Chairman of the House of Committee for the American Samoa Power Authority (ASPA) and the Territorial Energy Committee.

He also served as a Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Legal Affairs and the Judicial Committee, committee member on the Ways and Means Committee, Government Operations, Education, Public Safety, Communications/Public information, The Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA), Public Works, Parks and Recreations/ Sports complex, Port, Agriculture and Commerce.

Alumamalu was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in the village of Aasu where he served at times as the acting pastor and in his home, he installed the importance of faith in his family, insisting that God always be first in their lives.

His favorite passage from the Holy Bible is found in the book of Psalms 37:4 which he often recited to his family: “Ia e fiafia lava oe I le Ali’i, ona foai ina lea ia te oe o mea e mana’o i ai lou loto”.

Alumamalu loved spending time with friends and families and he wanted and expected his children and grandchildren to learn and understand the Samoan Culture and taught them to speak proper and fluent samoan. He was a loving human being who was kind, caring, but tough and stubborn at times.

Alumamalu Ale Filoiali’i passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023 at the LBJ Hospital in Fagaalu surrounded by his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Fa’atiuoamoa Filoiali’i, five children, and two grandchildren.
