Uifa’atali Amata and other members of Congress attend Caribbean conference

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata was invited by Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to take part in a two-day bipartisan Congressional delegation to Trinidad and Tobago. Members of Congress joined U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government Conference upon its 50th anniversary, and met with Trinidad and Tobago officials for discussions of security, economic growth, climate and energy issues. 

 “I have the honor of representing American Samoa wherever I go, and I appreciate Leader Jeffries’ invitation to include the perspective of an island representative in this delegation to island nations,” said Congresswoman Amata. “We often find common issues between what we face in the Pacific and what we face elsewhere such as the Caribbean.”

Leader Jeffries said, “It is an honor to lead this distinguished Congressional delegation, which includes top committee and subcommittee members relevant to critical issues throughout the Caribbean and Western Hemisphere. We look forward to a constructive and enlightening Congressional delegation visit.”

On Wednesday, the bipartisan Congressional delegation traveled to Trinidad and Tobago. Members of Congress met with Caribbean leaders regarding economic and geopolitical issues in the Western Hemisphere, and these international partnerships.
