ASG tax refunds out today

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — ASG Treasury Department announced late Thursday afternoon that tax refund checks for Batch #10 — totaling more than $4 million — will be release today, Monday, July 10.

The statement says that a total of 1,711 taxpayers who filed on Mar. 29 to partial June 29, 2023, will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the United States Post Office or picked up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office at the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building in Utulei.

Of the total of more than $4.55 million for Batch #10 — $758,650 is for the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), over $1.24 million of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and $2.55 million paid by local revenue. The ACTC and EITC are federally funded.

“To assist you with tracking your refunds, always keep in mind your filing date — batches or tax refunds are disbursed accordingly. Again, we thank you for your patience,” said ASG Treasurer Malemo Tausaga.

The latest tax refund comes just in time as Manu’a prepares for Manu’a Cession Day on July 16 — celebrating when the U.S Flag was raosed on the island-group and became part of American Samoa.

The governor is expected to issue a declaration for the upcoming holiday soon, with plans for festivities on Ta’u Island in Manu’a.
