Power outage on east side due to damaged underground cable

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — American Samoa Power Authority has issued a public apology to residents whose residences were affected by the power outage from Leloaloa to Onenoa, including Northside villages.

 “Field crews have found the cause of the fault due to a damaged underground power cable between Lepua Mart to the Aua Boat House.”

In a statement issued on Monday, ASPA says the field crews worked on replacing the 2000+ feet of the underground and took up to five hours to complete the installation of the cable and safely energizing the line with good weather.   

We apologize for the delays and we appreciate your patience.

“We will provide updates when available,” ASPA noted.

Regarding the water Pressure from Aua to Onenoa, ASPA says the water crews are implementing emergency water plans by supplying generators to water wells and boosters to assure the water supply does not get impacted as much. 

“Areas with high elevation may be impacted due to potential low water pressure due to power outage.”
