Governor submits a number of board nominations

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The governor has submitted his latest board nominations to the Fono for review.

He has nominated High Talking Chief Ale Tifimalae Ale to the Territorial Planning Commission for the Manu’a seat, along with five new members to the American Samoa Visitors Bureau Board.

In his letter to the Speaker of the House, Savali Talavou Ale on Sept. 16, Lemanu said that Ale has over 40 years of dedicated service to the American Samoa Government (ASG), and his expertise and leadership will be a great addition to the Commission.

Ale was nominated during the Second Regular Session of 37th Legislature and was confirmed by the House of Representatives, but was off-island on the day of his Senate confirmation hearing.

For the five members of the ASVB Board, Lemanu appointed High Talking Chief Tauese Vaa Sunia to represent the Office of Samoan Affairs; Agnes Polu to represent the Chamber of Commerce; Petti T. Matila to represent the Department of Commerce; Poe Mageo to represent the hotel industry, and Tuli Fruean to represent airline/ travel industry.

SENATE

Ale Tifimalae Ale's nomination as a member of the Territorial Planning Commission has also reached the Senate for their confirmation.

A Senate Resolution introduced yesterday says Ale has over 40 years of dedicated service to the American Samoa Government.

 “His expertise and leadership will be a great addition to the Commission.” Lemanu says Ale was nominated during the Second Regular Session of the 37 th Legislature and was confirmed by the House of Representatives (H.R. 37-38), but he was off-island on the day of his Senate confirmation hearing.

The Senate has also received the Governor’s nominations to the American Samoa Visitors Bureau Board.

This was confirmed in a Senate Resolution that was introduced in the fono yesterday. The nominees are Tauese V. Sunia, Agnes Polu, Petti T. Matila, Poe Mageo, and Tuli Fruean.

According to the resolution Tauese and Matila’s appointment if approved are valid until September 15, 2025 while Fruean and Polu’s term will conclude on September 15, 2024.

Fruean and Polu were confirmed by the Senate during the Third Regular Session of the 37th Legislature, however, the House of Representatives were not able to schedule a confirmation hearing before the session days expired.
