Finally, Hope House drainage mitigation project underway

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — McConnell Dowell crew has begun work on a drainage pit heading into Hope House and in front of the cemetery in Ottoville.  In addition to this project, which includes improvements and upgrades, McConnell Dowell is also the contractor for the Hope House extension access road in Ottoville.

Rep. Larry Sanitoa expressed appreciations to the contractor for the ongoing drainage and road improvements by Hope House.

“The residents, parishioners, motorists, and the team at Hope House are very grateful and appreciative that we have finally addressed this health hazardous stagnant water by Hope House,” Sanitoa wrote to the contractor late last week. “In addition, the road extension improvements are very much appreciated by residents in the area.”

He expressed appreciation to Gov. Lemanu Peleti Mauga “and our friends at DPW for their leadership and support in moving forward with this project.”

“It is good to hear about the new design for a bigger soakage pit and drilling several holes in the soakage pit to drain the water. This is similar to the drainage system in front of the Mormon church on Ottoville road,” he said.

Rep. Sanitoa is also happy to hear that DPW has ordered a new vacuum truck funded by American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 that will help clean and maintain these soakage pits.

“We look forward to a successful completion of this important project,” he concluded.
