Amata’s Poland visit focused on Ukraine refugees

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata was in Poland last week as part of a Congressional Delegation that focused on the refugee situation from neighboring Ukraine.

The CODEL met with U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski; held a site visit at the National Stadium Refugee Center; received a briefing from the Ukraine refugee agency, UNCHR; a walk-through at the multipurpose Cash Assistance Enrollment site; and met with Poland’s government plenipotentiary for war refugees from Ukraine.

“We visited young refugees, and I brought back a drawing from one child,” said Aumua Amata. “Poland and Ukraine share over 500 kilometers of border, putting Poland at the forefront of the needs of refugees and assistance during the Russian invasion. We had a firsthand look at these efforts, the needs of thousands of displaced people through no fault of their own, and the efforts to provide stability for them. The United States and other nations are involved in that major support effort.”

Poland is the third of five nations visited by the Members of Congress during the week including Memorial Day. The travel was arranged through the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Amata and her colleagues honored U.S. Veterans and the Cemetery sites of those buried abroad. They visited U.S. military personnel in several countries, and meetings covered topics including services to veterans abroad, national and allied security, and working with these nations on shared interests.
