DOI provides $26.6 million for to Am Samoa govt operations

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) has provided $26,670,000 in fiscal year 2022 funding to the American Samoa government to support the operations of public schools, the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, the community college, and the judicial system in the territory.

 “We are pleased to provide this support for critical public services for the people of American Samoa,” said Deputy Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Keone Nakoa. “Every year Congress provides this funding support for the territory, and we thank them for the much-needed boost for the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital.”

Made available through the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2022 (Public Law 117-103), the funds will be utilized as follows:

American Samoa Government – DoE       $13,090,000

Lyndon B. Johnson Tropical Medical Ctr               $11,564,400

American Samoa Community College      $ 1,558,400

High Court of American Samoa      $    457,200
