Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Miss American Samoa Inc., (MASI) president Mrs. Meafou Imo is the recipient of a $10,000 check from Bluesky Communications chief executive officer, Justin Tuiasosopo last Tuesday following a press conference where Bluesky announced its donation as a “Diamond Sponsor” of the 2021 Miss American Samoa Pageant set for the evening of Nov. 5th at Gov. Rex Lee Auditorium.
Also in the group photo is the reigning Miss American Samoa, Epifania Petelo and the five contestants for this year’s pageant.
Bluesky Communications customer service manager, Sherry Sele, offered welcoming remarks during the news conference at the DDW Restaurant-Oceanside, telling the audience, “As many of you know, Bluesky advocates empowerment of our youth.”
“And our Miss American Samoa Pageant is another avenue for our young ladies to participate and showcase their talent and knowledge of our islands. And in return they gain the experience of performing in public, to build their self confidence and an opportunity to learn more about themselves,” she said.
During his remarks, Tuiasosopo echoed Sele’s statement of the “importance of... empowering our young women” and that is why Bluesky is proud to be the “Diamond Sponsor”. Also, he said, the winner of this year’s pageant will also receive a new “iPhone 13”.
“The annual Miss American Samoa Pageant, as we all know, provides the stage for our young women to showcase their talents, intelligence, as well as their overall pride of our culture. This is a stage that is grander than grand because it only takes the brave to step up [to be interviewed],” he said and commended the five contestants as well as the reigning Miss American Samoa for taking up that challenge.
This year’s pageant theme, “Resilience in Times of Adversity” about which Tuiasosopo said, “I feel that this theme is so fitting because of the struggles that our women face on a daily basis.”
“Overall, Bluesky is very grateful for this opportunity to help empower our... young women to be resilient leaders of tomorrow as well as role models for our young people. We’re excited to be able to witness the talents, the intelligence, as well as the beautiful display of our culture that is to come on Nov. 5th,” he concluded.
