Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The ASG Department of Commerce’s Statistics Division released on Tuesday, the combined 2018-2019 Statistical Yearbook for the territory. And this is the thirty-seventh edition of this publication.
The Yearbook provides statistics and trends of demographic, social and economic characteristics of the territory from censuses, surveys and administrative records, says Commerce director, Petti T. Matila in her introductory message in the publication.
She hopes that data in the Yearbook on population, health, education, law enforcement, climate, land use, migration, trade, government finances, prices, employment, agriculture, utilities, and national accounts, “promotes and perpetuates interest in the pursuit of happiness and wellbeing of the people of American Samoa.”
Additionally, the publication has long been a popular publication among local policymakers, business leaders, and civil organizations.
“The collection and analysis of the raw data summarized in the Statistical Yearbook would not be possible without the cooperation of the many local and federal government agencies, private businesses and individuals,” she said.
She said DOC expresses appreciation to all those contributed to this edition, and “I look forward to any valuable input submitted for improving the quality and contents of the yearbook.”
Also included in the publication are a list of ASG agencies, and their directors, along with the Legislature and names of lawmakers, as well as the Judicial Branch and names of the judges.
Samoa News notes that over the years, federal government agencies and US based groups and others have cited previous Statical Yearbooks, and data it provides on various documents and reports. Even prosecutors and defense attorneys arguing cases in federal court pertinent to American Samoa have used and cited the Statical Yearbooks as the source of information.
An electronic copy of the 2018-2019 Statistical Yearbook will be available soon on this DOC link [https://doc.as/research-and-statistics/statistical-yearbook/] or call DOC-Statistical Division at 633-5155 to obtain the yearbook.
