Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Lemanu & Talauega Administration is continuing the Adopt-A-School program spearheaded by the Lolo Administration. ASG agencies have been informed of the new schedule for clean up for all public and private schools starting next month, and recurring every quarter.
In a June 14th memorandum to cabinet members, Gov. Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga said the “impactful initiative” of this program by the previous administration will be continued in the current administration.
“The conditions of our schools directly impact the performance of our students; therefore, it is crucial that we continue to support and work together to assist the Department of Education in maintaining and rehabilitating our schools,” the governor wrote.
Lemanu requested cabinet members’ “collaboration, time and energy to give our children the additional support and resources they need in order to succeed academically.”
ASG departments and agencies are directed to “plan accordingly for the next fiscal year and make funds available from your budgets to contribute to the success of this necessary commitment to our schools.”
According to the governor, the Adopt-A-School clean-ups will be conducted once a quarter. And the first clean up for this year will be held the week of July 19th to the 23rd. He asked cabinet members to allot time during this week to conduct a clean up “and help rehabilitate your designated adopted school.”
“The Lieutenant Governor and I appreciate your continued support and commitment,” the governor concluded.
All ASG authorities, departments and agencies will maintain their previously adopted schools. Included with the governor’s memo is the list of all ASG authorities, departments, agencies, and offices and the schools they are responsible for.
The list shows 29 public schools and 13 private schools territory-wide covered under the clean-up program.
In the 8-years of the Lolo Administration both public and private schools came to depend on the this program to help with necessary clean-ups of their campuses, especially heading into the start of a new school year.
