After eight months of waiting, American Samoa family reunited

Fiti Aina and family

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — After over a year of shutting down flights due to the pandemic, American Samoa has completed its 2nd round of repatriation and the 3rd repat group is now beginning quarantine in Honolulu.

PBS NewsHour Weekend’s Laura Fong spoke to one of the hundreds of formerly stranded residents, Fiti Aina, who is now at home.

It was a reunion eight months in the making. Just two weeks ago, Fiti Aina finally returned to his home in American Samoa on March 22 after being separated from his wife Danielle and six kids.
