ASG receives over $1.5 Million Ports grant for Faleasao dredging

Washington, D.C. —Thursday, Congresswoman Aumua Amata welcomed a grant of $1,525,599.77 for the Port Administration from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These federal dollars support dredging work based on Tropical Storm Gita damages in the village of Faleasao, Manu'a, island of Ta'u.

“Congratulations to Port Director Taimaleleagi Dr. Claire Poumele and her team for these funds,” said Aumua Amata. “Thank you for this important work.”

This federal funding for a Faleasao harbor dredging effort is part of the Public Assistance Program for FEMA-DR-4357-AS (Tropical Storm Gita), as provided under authority of Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act. This amount is the 90 percent share of the project total funding, as determined in 2018. FEMA obligates funding directly to American Samoa Government, which then ensures that the eligible sub-recipient receives this award.
