Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In a Dec. 16th memo, Gov. Lolo Matalasi Moliga declared Christmas Day, Wednesday, Dec. 25th and New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 as holidays in American Samoa and all government offices will be closed and normal activities will be suspended on those days.

ASG employees who are not required to perform essential services shall be excused from their duties, but employees required to perform duty will receive holiday wages in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

As in past years, many ASG employees usually take Christmas Eve or New Year’s Eve off. Others work halfday in order to beat traffic in several areas on island especially at the Laufou Shopping Center, where police plan to assign officers to monitor the traffic flow.
