Two Samoa police officers outside heaadquarters in Apia.

Apia, SAMOA — A victim in a "horrific" double killing in Samoa has New Zealand links, the Samoa Police Service says.

The Criminal Investigation Division was called to the discovery of two bodies in an open outdoor kitchen area at 7.05am on Friday.

"Evidence of alcohol was also found at the site with the bodies in badly slayed conditions," police said in a Facebook post.

"Due to the horrific scene, a search was immediately executed to locate a third person who was believed to be at the site."

On Friday evening, the CID arrested a 24-year-old man who had since been charged with murder and remanded in custody to await court mention, due on December 10.

One of the dead men was aged 69, from Leulumoega uta and Lufilufi in Samoa and New Zealand. The other was his 42-year-old son-in-law from Savaia Lefaga and Leulumoega uta.

The outdoor kitchen area where the bodies were found was at Leulumoega-uta.

The Police Deputy Commissioner, Papali’i Monalisa Keti, did not respond to emails and phone calls from the Samoa Observer to confirm the deaths at the weekend.
