Cannery Workers return to work in American Samoa

Nearly 2,000 employees at a cannery in American Samoa will be returning to work this week, after five weeks without pay.

The workers at StarKist Samoa have been without pay cheques since production was shut down to upgrade the plant, which was part of a settlement between the plant at the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The cannery had been violating its permit for tuna waste disposal.

Over the past five weeks there have been food drives and other initiatives across the territory to help the staff of one of American Samoa's largest employers.
