Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A flash flood watch is in effect for Tutuila, Aunu'u, Manu'a, and Swains through Saturday night. An elongated, stationary surface trough, stretching from the Solomon Islands to the Cook Islands, will remains anchored through the weekend. This surface boundary will combine with an extremely moist and unstable airmass in place over the region, to continue an extended risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms over American Samoa through the weekend.
Heavy rainfall and flash flooding remains and major risk and concern for the region tonight while model data supports deep layer moisture and instability into Sunday. Otherwise, expect diminishing areal coverage in rain and lessened risks of heavy rain and flash flooding Monday and through much of the upcoming work week, as the trough slowly drifts southwest wile a large area of high pressure and drier, and more stable air moves into eastern portions of the region.
