Welcoming the Pope's chief diplomatic representative in the Pacific

Governor presents gifts to Apostolic Nuncio

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — His Excellency Apostolic Nuncio Gabor Zoltan Pinter, the Vatican's diplomatic representative, serving as the Pope's main envoy in the Pacific, similar to an ambassador was welcomed to the Territory last Friday, August 08, 2025.

Upon his arrival at the airport, he was greeted by the Most Reverend Bishop Kolio Etuale and Governor Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula. In accordance with Samoan customs, gifts were presented to the Nuncio by Governor Pula as a welcoming gesture to the Territory.

The Diocese Chairman, Faiivae Iuli Godinet, who is the current Secretary of Samoan Affairs for the American Samoa Government, was also present at the arrival.

DPS Commissioner Taaga Saite Moliga oversaw the operation of the Nuncio’s convoy to Fatuoaiga.

His Excellency was in the Territory for the Episcopal Conference of the Pacific CEPAC Plenary Assembly, held from Aug. 5- 11, and hosted by the Diocese of Samoa- Pago Pago at Fatu- o-Aiga.

He served as the main celebrant for the closing Mass of the CEPAC, on Sunday, August 10th, held at the Holy Family Cathedral.
