election office

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata congratulated the incoming administration and thanked out-going Governor Lemanu Palepoi Sialegā Mauga and Lieutenant Governor La’apui Talauega Eleasalo Va’alele Ale for their public service.

This comes after the Pulaalii Nikolao Pula and Pulu Ae Ae, Jr. gubernatorial team was declared the unofficial winners of the Tuesday, Nov. 19 run-off election.

Samoa News notes that Governor-elect Pulaalii Nikolao Pula is the first individual of Samoan ancestry to serve as Director of the Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) of the Department of the Interior, a U.S. government career service position. Lt. Governor-elect Pulu has served as Pago Pago pulenu’u, a member of the Fono and on the congresswoman’s American Samoa staff.

“I look forward to working together with the new administration on shared priorities and obtaining needed federal funding, and maintaining communications on our mutual efforts,” said Congresswoman Aumua Amata. “Thank you to the current administration for your hard work over the past four years. I know that everyone wants the very best for American Samoa, and on such a small island, we will all likely have continued opportunities to work together on behalf of our people.”

“Once elections are over, American Samoans find unity in our faith, community, and the best possible future we want for our young people,” concluded Amata. “Thank you to everyone who took part in our important freedoms by participating in our process of choosing leaders. As we approach the holidays, I look forward to completing current ongoing efforts, then seeing what we can accomplish together as a people in the new year.”
