Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Speaker of the House, Savali Talavou Ale has appointed two faipule to serve as members of the Resilience Commission to deal with many issues including climate change.
The two faipule from the House are Vice Speaker of the House, Fetui Fetu Jr and Rep. Larry Sanitoa.
In his Feb. 10, 2022 letter to Fono leaders, Gov. Lemanu P. S. Mauga sought the support from the Legislature by appointing one member from each chamber to serve as member of the Resilience Commission.
The newly created Resilience Commission consists of 23 members that includes two appointments from the Fono was established on Dec. 23, 2021 through the Governor’s Executive Order.
This Commission shall establish change adaptation and mitigation strategies and goals that will inform Territory-wide planning and implementations. Discussion will also focus on employing the latest scientific and risk assessment to monitor and forecast climate change related impacts at the regional and territorial levels.
The first convening of the Commission was this past Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022.
