Tragedy at Aoa village

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A tragic incident this past Sunday in the village of Aoa took place when a man shot his wife, and then committed suicide. The double tragedy happened at the family’s home in Aoa.

The wife was rushed to the LBJ Tropical Medical Center and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to a family member, the woman is currently in critical condition and she underwent surgery yesterday.

The husband’s body was also transported to the LBJ Hospital where he was later pronounced dead upon arrival (DOA) at the LBJ Emergency Room (ER).

It is not clear at this time what actually triggered the tragic incident.

Family members who spoke to Samoa News said the couple has 9 children. The wife works at StarKist as a clerk for the Engineering division while the husband worked for the DOE School Lunch program.

Family members told Samoa News that investigators were at the family residence yesterday interviewing the children and other family members in an effort to get a clear understanding of what actually happened.
