Territory’s senior citizens honored on TAOA’s annual Celebration Day

SENIOR CITIZENS AWARD

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The senior citizens of American Samoa were honored during the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA) Annual Senior Citizens Day celebration, where they were recognizing for their invaluable role in shaping families, villages, and communities.

The celebration was themed "Flip the Script on Aging,” highlighting the strength and contributions of elders, and emphasizing their wisdom as the foundation of our island’s success.

“Our families, villages, and communities thrive when we seek the wisdom and guidance of our elders,” said Governor Pulaali’i N. Pula, during his special remarks to honor the Territory’s seniors. “Their sacrifices, leadership, and steadfast dedication have strengthened the very fabric of our society.

“Today, we honor their achievements and thank them for the many ways they continue to shape our future.”

Rev. Aituimalae Faavae of the Congregational Church of Jesus in Samoa of Naumati, delivered a spiritual message, reinforcing the profound cultural and moral values imparted by older generations and their enduring influence on society.

The celebration also included special recognition of three distinguished senior citizens, honored for their lifelong contributions and celebrating their dedication, wisdom, and lasting impact on the community.

●         The Oldest Senior Citizen Award was presented to Pouiva Reid at 100 years old;

●         Community Service Award was awarded to Poialii Fiasili Haleck; and,

●         The Oldest Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) Employee Award was awarded to Palauli Alopopo with 5 years of service.

Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata and Taotasi Archie Soliai, who represented both the Lions Club and the Rotary Club had the honor of presenting these awards, and personally thanked each recipient for their dedication and impact on the community.

Attendees and guests were treated to a luncheon and performances by the CCJS Youth.
