Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — ASG and the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA), brought together senior citizens and elderly members of the community this past Friday for a day filled with gratitude, recognition, and joy.
In the packed DWYA Gym in Tafuna, the annual event included various dance performances and interactive sessions, camaraderie, appreciation — and of course an abundance of food.
Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga was among the territorial leaders who served the luncheon to the guests of honor — the senior citizens and elderly members of the community last Friday, Dec. 1, 2023 at the DYWA Gym in Tafuna during the annual TAOA event hosted by ASG and the Territorial Administration on Aging (TAOA). "We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and today, we express our deepest gratitude to our elderly citizens,” Gov. Lemanu P.S. Mauga said in his opening remarks.
“Your hard work has paved the way for the current generation, making it easier for us to build and shape our government. Thank you for your love, for nurturing our children, and for being the foundation of our community. Many of your children now work for the government, a testament to the enduring impact of your efforts. Your support and prayers from home do not go unnoticed; you are cherished, and your legacy lives on."
Special awards were presented by TAOA Director Evelyn Lili’o-Satele in the spirit of what TAOA stands for: Good Health, Happiness, and Long Life

Special Recognition went to Tinousi Jennings after serving 64 years in the government, and who is still serving the government and its people.
Lt. Governor Ale delivered the closing words, expressing gratitude to the children who are dedicated caregivers to their parents. "As a former caretaker myself, I understand the challenges you face, and I commend you for your unwavering love and dedication. Taking care of our parents is a labor of love, and your hard work does not go unnoticed. Your efforts are a testament to the blessings that come from caring for our elders."
The event concluded with the community coming together to celebrate the resilience, wisdom, and legacy of our senior citizens. ASG extends its heartfelt appreciation to all who participated, making the Territorial Administration on Aging celebration a memorable and meaningful occasion.
