Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The second round of refund checks for tax year 2019, of more than $1.2 million — for those who qualify for refunds — is scheduled for release later this week.
With this round of tax refunds, total amount to pour into the economy will be over $2 million, which comes at a time when residents are looking for extra money to replenish their home supplies, after shipping delays.
One of the container shipping vessels arrived in port early this week, and was expected to bring in a large shipment of imported bottled water that ran low in some stores, while others were out over the weekend.
In a brief statement on Monday afternoon, ASG Treasurer Ueligitone P. Tonumaipe’a said that refunds for all 2019 taxes filed between Jan. 24-29, 2020 are included in batches #4 and #5 and will be released this Friday, Mar. 20th.
Of the total of more than $1.25 million in tax refunds, $384,081 is the local refund, funded by ASG revenues and $874,105 is for the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service.
The first tax refunds for tax filing year 2019 of more than $1.38 million was distributed Mar. 6th.
Putting together the first and second tax refund distributions, that brings a total of over $2.64 million — with $1.85 million from the ACTC and $788,912 for local funds, according to Tonumaipe’a
