Rep asks police to patrol the Fogagogo road

Tualauta Rep. Larry Sanitoa

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On behalf of several residents of Fogagogo, Tualauta Rep. Larry Sanitoa this week asked Police Commissioner Le’i Sonny Thompson for police assistance in patrolling the Fogagogo road more frequently.

“Several residents have reported that many vehicles including buses are constantly speeding through this road,” Sanitoa wrote to Le’i. Furthermore, given schools are out, there are many young people loitering and hanging around certain bus stop areas making noise, etc. There are even reports of drivers throwing out trash by the side of this road.”

Given the problem of not having enough village mayors and/ or village police in the Tualauta district, “mainly due to the lack of funding”, Sanitoa requested the Police Commissioner’s assistance in having police officers “be more visible in the area with frequent visits to Fogagogo side roads.”

At some point in the near future, Sanitoa said it’s his hope to collaborate with his Tualauta colleague, Rep. Sam Meleisea, in working closely with Public Safety and “our residents to establish a neighborhood watch program for these areas that are not under any supervision by a village council or pulenu'u and aumaga.”
