Refunds for some timely tax payers going out Tuesday

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Some lucky tax payers will have some extra cash for Easter Sunday after the Department of Treasury announced that tax refunds for batches 8 and 9 will be released tomorrow, Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

Individuals who filed on February 4th to partial of February 6th will get their refunds through direct deposits, the US Post Office, and the Disbursing Office in Utulei.

No update on tax refunds for 2023 that some in the public are saying are still outstanding, was included in the press release.

During the Lemanu Administration’s the then-Treasurer told a Senate hearing that he had been releasing tax refunds due to special requests, i.e. fa’alavelaves — saying it was his ‘love’ for the people that motivated him to answer their needs. At the time, there was a public uproar about tax refunds for 2023 still being outstanding for many.

Samoa News should point out that the “unfairness” of early release of tax refunds is not a new issue, with the public often grumbling about delays.
