Professional diver bitten by shark in Pago Harbor near StarKist

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A man was rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon after he was bitten by shark near the StarKist dock.

This was confirmed by Captain Ina Ulberg of the Marine Patrol in response to questions from Samoa News.  According to Emergency Medical Services technicians, the professional diver was diving around Atuu when the incident occurred. The EMS personnel said the diver sustained sever injuries to his leg and will most likely undergo surgery.  "He lost a lot of blood," as a result.  Ulberg told Samoa News it's concerning that sharks are seen close to the coastline.  More details in Tuesday's edition.
