Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Just over $2 million in tax refund checks — for Batch #14 — is set for release today, Wednesday, providing new cash infusion for local residents — especially those preparing for the upcoming Fourth of July, three-day weekend, as this coming Monday is the July 4th holiday.
In a brief statement issued earlier this week, ASG Treasury announced that the 14th batch of tax refunds for a total of 550 taxpayers who filed on partial Mar. 16 to Mar. 22 will receive their tax refund checks Wednesday, June 29.
According to Treasury, 36 taxpayers will receive the refunds through direct deposit, 449 by mail, and 65 individuals who don’t have a mailing address on their tax returns will be able pick up refunds at the Treasury Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB).
Of the total tax refunds of just over $2.03 million released today, $471,377 is paid from locally collected funds and more than $1.56 million from the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service.
If you are expecting a tax refund and did not receive it, call the Tax Office for further information and assistance, but don’t visit the office.
The Treasury statement reminds those picking up their checks at Disbursing that social distancing and wearing a face mask is strictly enforced at the EOB, where “you must present your identification and [COVID] vaccination card” upon entering the building.
