Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Gov. Lemanu P.S. Mauga, through an Executive Order, has declared “An Ongoing State Of Disaster Emergency Related To Adverse Weather Condition Causing Flooding And Landslide Hazards” dated Jan. 15, 2024.
The Territory has been experienced heavy rainfall, strong wins and high surf advisories, with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecasting an “elevated risk of tropical cyclones for American Samoa from November 2023- April 2024.”
The governor’s declaration activates the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which as of Monday, Jan. 15th, remains triggered to “work with relevant departments and agencies to monitor weather and its impact throughout the Territory.”
Price gouging is noted as prohibited.
The Jan. 15th State of Emergency renews an Order of Declaration of State of Emergency related to weather conditions causing flooding and landslide hazards issued effective Dec. 15, 2023.
