Meth found during raid on illegal gambling site

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On June 19, 2025, authorities raided a suspected illegal game room and arrested a man in possession of methamphetamine.

The suspect was charged with Count 1: Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), a felony punishable by a term of imprisonment not less than five years but not to exceed ten years, a fine of not less than $5,000 but not to exceed $10,000, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $2,000.

According to court records, on June 19th, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Department of Public Safety (DPS) executed a search warrant on the Abundance Arcade establishment for suspected illegal gambling.

Upon arrival at the scene, detectives announced their presence and discovered several men inside the establishment playing on what appeared to be a gambling machine inside of a game room.

One of the individuals, Floyd Makuisa (suspect), was patted down for weapons and illegal contraband during the search as standard protocol. Authorities discovered the following in the suspect’s possession:

1) A bottle of pills containing a clear baggie containing an intact white crystalline substance;

2) three cut up straws containing an intact white crystalline substance;

3) a glass pipe containing residue of a white crystalline substance;

4) multiple used cut up straws;

5) fire torch;

6) two small sized baggies containing what appeared to be a powdery substance, colored a hue of brown;

7) a folded hand knife; and,

8) cash in the amount of $16.32.

The crystalline substances from the glass pipes, baggies and cut up straws were later tested using the Methamphetamine Field Test Kit and yielded positive results for Methamphetamine.

The suspect was booked and transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility for 48 hours confinement to await the next available sitting of the District Court.
