Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On July 9, 2025, the Leone Police Substation (LPS) received a call regarding an alleged assault of a woman which led to the suspect being hospitalized.
The suspect was later charged with:
Count 1: Assault in the Third Degree, a class A misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of $1,000.00, or both; and,
Count 2: Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500.00, or both.
The defendant’s bail was set at $2,000.00.
According to the court affidavit, on July 9th, around 10:44 p.m., a man (later identified as the reporter) contacted the LPS requesting assistance regarding a disturbance.
The reporter alleged that the suspect (later identified as Wei Casimire) was yelling and screaming profanities while running on the main road in Sogi. He also reported that the suspect shattered their vehicle’s window with a rock and assaulted a woman (later identified as the victim). The incident occurred on the victim’s family property which is right across from the suspect’s house.
Upon arrival at the scene, police officers made contact with the reporter and three other family members. The reporter briefly explained what had happened and pointed out where Mr. Casimire was — right across the road.
Authorities proceeded towards the suspect’s house, where he came out and walked to the side door of his house. The suspect was observed bleeding from his mouth and there was a cut on top of his left eye below his eyebrow.
The officers immediately apprehended the suspect and he was later transported to the LPS. The officers also requested Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to standby at the LPS.
Interviews of the witnesses were conducted at the scene and photos were also taken of the damaged vehicle.
The reporter was first interviewed and he explained that while he was at his house, he heard someone running back and forth in front of the road while yelling profanities in Samoan. He came outside and saw the suspect shouting out the Samoan war cry (fa’aūmu), to which he told the suspect to stop because he was disturbing the neighbors. Casimire did not stop, and at that point he went back inside his house and called the police.
After reporting the incident, the reporter stated that “he heard a crash and multiple voices outside”. He again walked outside and that’s when he saw a car with a broken window.
He further witnessed Casimire approach a woman (later identified as the victim) and punch her head. The victim fell down, he said, and that’s when her son-in-law came outside and defended her by punching Casimire twice in the face. Casimire’s brother-in-law was then seen grabbing the suspect and taking him back to their house.
At about 11:10 p.m., the victim was interviewed and she stated that “she doesn’t know why the suspect is like that”. She explained that she was inside her home trying to sleep but she heard someone outside yelling profanities in Samoan. The loud noise woke up their family and she and her husband along with their daughter came outside to see what was going on.
The victim stated that they tried to ask the suspect if he’s okay but he turned on them and cursed them out. Moreover, the suspect grabbed two rocks and threw the first rock which hit their car parked in front of their residence. She reported that the suspect shattered the left side driver’s window of their vehicle. Casimire then threw the second rock at their other vehicle but missed. The victim continued that she screamed at Casimire to stop but he approached her.
Her husband then intervened and covered her, but the suspect tried to punch him and her husband dodged and lost his balance. As a result, Casimire got to her where he punched her in the head and caused her to fall.
The victim was asked if she had any injuries and she stated no and that she doesn’t need medical assistance.
Another witness and the victim’s son-in-law were also interviewed and corroborated the reporter and the victim’s statements regarding the incident.
Upon arrival at the Leone Police Station, the EMS examined Casimire and recommended taking him to the hospital for further examination.
Authorities documented the suspect’s injuries before he was taken to the hospital. The attending physician later informed the officers that Casimire would be admitted for a fractured jaw and other surgical treatment.
The affidavit does not say if the suspect was later booked and confined.
