Man arrested for breaking into ex-girlfriend’s home, and allegedly assaulting her

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On January 29, 2025, Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) received a call from a female reporting that she was allegedly assaulted by her ex-boyfriend after he broke into her home.

The suspect was found inside the victim’s bedroom where he was arrested and later charged with:

Count 1: Count 1: Private Peace Disturbance (DV), a class C misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to fifteen days, a fine of $300, or both;

Count 2: Trespass (DV), a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500, or both; and,

Count 3: Assault in the Third Degree (DV), a class A misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of $1,000, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $1,000.

According to the court affidavit, on Jan. 29th, at about 1:20 a.m., a female (later identified as the victim) contacted the TPS on the phone, while crying.

The victim alleged that she was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Luu Dinh Tu at her residence and that she was terrified and needed assistance right away.

Police officers responded to the call and upon arrival at the scene, one of the officers met up with the victim and interviewed her about what happened, while other officers proceeded to locate the suspect inside the victim’s house.

As the officers approached the victim’s room, the suspect was observed lying on the bed where he was immediately apprehended.

The suspect was transported to the TPS for further investigation.

According to the victim, she had a previous case with the suspect on Jan. 26, 2025 when the officers arrested the suspect, and he was later released on Jan. 28.

The victim continued that the suspect came into her house and she told him not to come inside. However, the suspect went around her house to the back door and was able to get inside.

She then said she rushed to the front door and tried to escape, but the suspect grabbed the door handle.  Dinh Tu grabbed her hair and pulled her inside the house and he slapped her in her face twice and hit her once in her stomach, according to the woman.

The victim also stated that the suspect doesn’t live with her.

Upon arrival at the TPS, Dinh Tu was booked and then confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility to await the next sitting of the District Court.
