Man arrested for allegedly breaking into a house, says he needed a place to stay

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On February 5, 2025, a woman called the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) and requested assistance in removing a man who allegedly broke into one of her properties.

The suspect was arrested and later charged with Count 1: Trespass, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500, or both.

The defendant’s bail was set at $500.

According to the court affidavit, on Feb. 5th, at around 4:00 p.m., a woman reported her nephew Stanley Napoleone (later identified as the suspect) for allegedly entering her home unlawfully.

Police officers proceeded to the said call and upon arrival at the scene they met up with the reporter/ victim who guided the officers to one of the unoccupied houses located on her property. The house was behind the house that the victim was living in and that’s where she stated that the suspect had unlawfully entered.

The officers proceeded to the house and observed the suspect sitting inside. He was ordered by the officers to exit the building and was  transported to the TPS for further investigation.

According to the victim’s verbal statement, she was cleaning up the yard when she heard a loud bang coming from her unoccupied house. As she went to check, she noticed the suspect standing inside. She advised the suspect to leave several times but he refused to do so, and told her that he was looking for somewhere to stay; and, that’s when she contacted the police for assistance.

Upon arrival at the TPS, the suspect was Mirandized in which he understood and willingly provided a verbal statement explaining his actions.

The suspect verbally stated that he knew it wasn’t his house but he was just looking for somewhere to stay. When asked how he was able to enter the premises, he stated that he forced his way in by kicking open the door.

Stanley Napoleone was booked and confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility to await the next available sitting of the District Court.

The defendant is identified as a 48-year-old U.S National.
