Little Fire Ants found on Tutuila

Little Fire Ants shown on tip of a pemcil to show the size.

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Little fire ants have been found on Tutuila for the first time. Their sting is painful and itchy, and they can harm plants and animals.

Please help protect our island by reporting any suspected infestations.

Little fire ants are only 1 millimeter long, orange, and slow-moving. They may be found on the ground or on trees and bushes. They are much smaller than tropical fire ants, which can also sting, but which have been in American Samoa for a long time.

If you think you have little fire ants on your land, please contact ASCC Land Grant  right away at 699-1575.
